The sky is falling!!
Okay, maybe not…but at this time of year, as trees lose their leaves and the rain sets in, it sure can feel that way! Whether you have a flat roof or pitched, no matter the material, it is important to make sure your roof is in tip top shape as we move through fall and into winter. The accumulation of leaves and organic debris can block gutters and drains, allowing water to pool and maybe even find a way inside your home or building.
A ground level inspection is a great way to make sure that your roof is ready for winter.
Here are a few things to look for:
- Take note of any areas that appear discolored or water stained, and have a professional roofer conduct an inspection, to ensure that your roof has adequate drainage, and there are no current or potential points of entry for water into your home or building.
- Gutter systems are generally comprised of many pieces, which can become disconnected or misaligned. Take note of any pieces that have come apart or may be cracked or broken, and have them reconnected or repaired as necessary.
- Check for build-up of organic debris such as leaves and moss in your gutters and throughout the roof system, and have it removed.
Remember, unless you have experience it is always best to consult a professional. If you choose to tackle any of the above on your own, please click here and take a few moments to review ladder safety information.
